Home of the world-renowned "Sinulog" festival, Cebu is a favorite destination for adventurous tourists and ardent vacationers. Home to 2.5 million Cebuanos (718,821 in the main city, Cebu City), Cebu is the country's main domestic shipping hub and is home to more than 80% of the country's inter-island shipping companies. Outside of the country's capital, Manila, Cebu is also a main hub of international flights into the country and is the most important center of commerce, trade, and industry in the Visayas and Mindanao, the southern parts of the country. It is because of this and many other important features that Cebu is dubbed the Queen City of the South.
Abundant marine life and long stretches of white sand beaches are undeniable highlights that make Cebu prominent even to well-traveled divers and professionals. Southeast Asian coral reefs have the highest levels of biodiversity for the world's marine ecosystems, and the Cebu waters is a treat of the best coral reefs in Southeast Asia. Being passionate conservation experts, Cebuanos have grown several organizations, most of them non-profit, to aid in the conservation of the marine wildlife in the waters surrounding Cebu.
